Dining at Restaurants:
Pre-college teens and your current group of college age students show similar eating habits
and food preferences when visiting commercial operations. With over 80% of both groups
visiting a Quick Serve operation regularly, the burger chains, with their menu variety,
speed and convenience still lead the way, followed closely by pizza, C-Stores and sandwich shops.
How concerned are they about health and nutrition?
Pre-college teens, your future customers, are showing a growing level of awareness about health
and nutrition issues in dining but are still primarily guided by taste in making their choices.
By the time they reach college age, their food choices start to reflect that awareness, possibly
as a result of nutritional educational programs. A large percentage of college age students said
they are shifting their away-from-home eating habits from the burger chains and pizza shops they
frequented before graduation to more salads, grilled chicken sandwiches, vegetables, fruit and
yogurt than they did a year ago.
